After three days of hard driving around some of the most challenging roads in the country, Steve Glenney has claimed the Modern title at Rally Tasmania.
Glenney's win in the Modern section was even more emphatic. He was fastest across 18 of the 20 stages, demonstrating great speed and consistency in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 on all 192 competitive kilometres.
Also from South Australia, the thoroughbred horse trainer finished one minute 45 seconds clear of Jim Richards in his 2007 Porsche GT3 RS with Tony Longhurst's Subaru Impreza WRX STI third, three minutes five seconds behind the winner.
Glenney was in the same car that took Alan Simonsen to the Rally Tasmania title in 2007. It was just his second outing in the event, and his result this time was a significant improvement on his fourth in 2006. The Lancer Evo 9 is tuned on Elf WRF, unleaded 102 RON fuel with 2.6% oxygen.
"We've got a great car and a great team who have worked hard to make sure everything went to plan," Glenney said.
"The car was faultless and helped us build a good lead early on in the event." |
