2006 CAMS Fuel Regulations: FIA focus

Some changes and amendments have been made to the CAMS fuel regulations for 2006.

COMMERCIAL FUEL
2. ...Fuel the subject of Approvals made under Section 13 of the Fuel Quality Standards Act (2000) shall not be regarded as Commercial Fuel for the purposes of the present article
[Race Fuels Pty Ltd opinion: This will ban a number of racing fuels previously used in CAMS events which had been wrongly approved as 'commercial fuel'. Example: a fuel with over 103 RON or over 4% oxygen would be affected by this rule]
RACING FUEL
4.2 Unleaded Racing Fuel: Unleaded Racing fuel is defined as an unleaded petrol in compliance with FIA Article 252.9.1 of Appendix J to the current FIA year book.
FIA : APPENDIX J TO THE INTERNATIONAL SPORTING CODE
ARTICLE 252 - 9.1 ...The fuel must comply with the following specifications:
- 102.0 RON and 90.0 MON maximum, 95.0 RON and 85.0 MON minimum for unleaded fuel.
- 100.0 RON and 92.0 MON maximum, 97.0 RON and 86.0 MON minimum for leaded fuel.
The measurements will be made according to the standards ASTM D 2699-86 and D 2700-86.
- Specific gravity between 720 and 785 kg/m3 at 15°C (measured according to ASTM D 4052).
- A maximum of 2.8 % oxygen (or 3.7 % if the lead content is less than 0.013 g/l) and 0.5 %
Elf fuels which are both FIA compliant and CAMS compliant include:
- Elf Turbomax: 102 RON, 90 MON, 3.6% Oxygen
- Elf Atmo Rallye: 100 RON, 90 MON, 3.5% Oxygen
- Elf LMS: 102 RON, 90 MON, 2.5% Oxygen
- Elf WRF: 102 RON, 90 MON, 2.6% Oxygen
Elf Racing Fuels are all designed to meet the FIA specifications.
